Gurgaon: 20 days on, leak in Huda water pipeline fixed

Twenty days after a Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) master water pipeline had developed a leak, the authority plugged it on Tuesday evening. By then, the seepage had led to waterlogging at Block C, Sector 17.

Residents, however, said even after the Huda claimed to plug the leak, they noticed some seepage early Wednesday. The leakage started when trees were cut for widening the NH-8 that shares its periphery with the sector, residents said.

“We saw workers at the leakage site till late evening. The leakage has been on for the last 20 days or more. The water seeping out of the pipeline got collected in the dug-up trench along the periphery of the sector and water started pouring into the ground floor of houses. Around 12 to 15 houses suffered from the seepage and we collectively went to the Huda office a week ago to complain about the issue. Even after that, nothing happened,” Satish Solanki, a resident, said.

Shailender Yadav, a resident, said, “Only under media pressure did the Huda officials fix the problem. Water leakage was happening for several days and, despite our repeated complaints, the officials were reluctant to act. With ground floor houses suffering the effects of seepage, we were scared about the stability of our buildings.”

Huda’s master water pipeline is located along the NH-8.

“We had received complaints from residents and conveyed the same to the NHAI contractor in charge of widening the expressway. They ruptured the pipeline while cutting trees in the green belt. Now, we have fixed the leakage,” a Huda engineer said.

However an NHAI official said they have not received any such complaints at all.
