They also alleged that there was a possibility of her husband, Gurgaon chief judicial magistrate Ravneet Garg — an accused in the murder case — having an extra-marital affair.

Rakesh Gupta, a cousin of the victim, along with other family members, lodged a supplementary to the earlier FIR at the Civil Lines police station late in the evening. “Our sister was harassed for dowry. At the time of marriage we had given the Garg family a Skoda Laura car on their demand. In 2009, they again demanded a Skoda Superb car which we gave. We satisfied their numerous other demands even after that,” he said.

“Some time ago, Geetanjali had called her brother saying that her in-laws had refused to pay the school fees of her daughters and had told her to get the money from her parents. We gave R2 lakh to the family in two instalments in May. When the monetary demands did not stop even after this, she just refused them saying that her parents were in dire straits financially,” added Gupta.

Meanwhile, the special investigation team revisited the crime scene and conducted a search of the Garg residence in Civil Lines on Sunday.

“We have done two things today. First, we have questioned Heena, Ravneet’s cousin who was present at the house the day Geetanjali was found dead. Second, we conducted a search of Garg’s official residence in and seized three laptops, one mobile, original licence of the revolver used in the crime, its cover and a pack of live cartridges,” said Gurgaon police commissioner Alok Mittal.
