Gurgaon: Construction debris encroaching on Anaath Road removed

Industry owners lauded the effort to clear encroachment from Anaath Road, but urged the MCG to do more to address other issues affecting commuters on the stretch

Taking into cognizance the problems being faced by industrialists, who have factories on the 2.5km-long Anaath Road at Udyog Vihar in Gurgaon’s Sector 18, the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) on Saturday got the garbage and construction waste removed from both sides of the road. The industry owners appreciated the steps taken by the corporation, but urged the civic authority to do more to address the other problems plaguing the road.

“Construction waste, known locally as malba, had not been removed from the road for more than a year. The road is narrow as it is and with construction waste and garbage encroaching on it, there was hardly any space available for commuters,” NP Grewal, general manager, Orient Craft Export House, said.

Locals said it took nearly six years for the authorities to take note of the encroachment on Sirhaul Road, which was later christened as Anaath Road, as no agency was willing to take ownership or custodianship of this stretch.

Lauding the MCG’s effort to clear encroachment from the road, industry owners have now sought urgent filling of potholes that lead to extensive waterlogging on the stretch during monsoon and frequent mishaps. “While we welcome the MCG’s effort to remove encroachment from Anaath Road, we hope the administration will also move swiftly to fix potholes and address the poor sanitary condition of the stretch,” Lokesh Kumar, an MNC executive and a regular on Anaath Road, said.

Representatives of a large number of companies, including Nagaro, Seimens, Sigma , Regus , Orient Craft , Delfique and Hilltop Tours, among others, expressed satisfaction over the clean-up by the civic officials.

Grewal also said that there is a need for building more pavements and expanding the road space in a bid to reduce the hassle for commuters. Presently, there is no check on traffic movement and illegal parking on the stretch.

MCG spokesperson SS Rohilla said there had been a flood of complaints from residents in nearby areas about the encroachment on Anaath Road and hence, the staff concerned had been directed to clear the debris. “We will watch this road and more steps will be taken to improve its civic condition,” Rohilla said.
