Gurgaon: Delhi man’s leg chopped after ‘jumping’ in front of train

A man from Delhi jumped in front of a moving train at the Basai railway station in an alleged bid to commit suicide.

A 30-year old man’s legs were chopped after he jumped before a moving train in an alleged attempt to commit suicide near Basai railway station on Monday morning. In another incident an employee of a private company was mowed down after he was unable to spot a train while crossing the track near Dhanwapur railway crossing.

In the first incident, a man from Delhi, identified as Sandeep Kumar, was injured grievously when he allegedly jumped before a train at the Basai railway station. The incident happened around 10 am, and eyewitnesses informed the railway police. Kumar was first taken to the civil hospital, Gurgaon, from where he was referred to the Safdarjung hospital in Delhi as he was critical.

Police did not confirm whether it was a suicide attempt or an accident. Eyewitnesses said Kumar was crossing the track when he was hit by a fast moving goods train near the Basai railway station platform.

“It is not clear whether this was an accident or an attempt to commit suicide as we could not take his statement. His family was informed about the incident and they took him to Delhi for treatment,” Ramesh Chander, SHO, GRP, Gurgaon, said.

In another incident, a 46-year old man, identified as Manohar who works in a private company, died when he was hit by a fast moving train while crossing the railway track near Dhanwapur railway crossing.

Eyewitnesses said Manohar of Surat Nagar in Gurgaon did not spot the oncoming train in his hurry to cross the track. Police have registered a case and started investigation.
