Gurgaon feels the sting with 257 dengue cases

Residents say many have been tested positive at private hospitals, but health department refuses to record cases to keep numbers low

Gurgaon: The rising number of dengue cases in the city has left the residents worried. Gurgaon has reported a total of 257 dengue cases so far. No death has been reported yet.

While the health department claimed that it has taken several measures to control the disease, residents in several parts of the city said that no fogging has been done in their localities.

Residents also alleged that many of them have been diagnosed with dengue at private hospitals, but the health department refuses to accept it as positive cases to keep the numbers low.

“Many people in our colony are falling sick with fever. We visit clinics close to our homes and results of tests conducted there show that patients are suffering from dengue. However, tests conducted at the Civil Hospital turn out to be negative,” said Omprakash Paswan from Shyamchandra Jha Colony, near Sikanderpur village.

She said extensive fogging is carried out in the houses of dengue patients. Fogging is also carried out in 50 neighbouring houses.

While cases are being reported from across the city, highest number of cases has been confirmed from DLF Phase 5, Sector 45 and Sushant Lok 2.

The total number of cases this year has already exceeded that of the past three years. In 2012, 375 cases reported.
