In order to provide free legal service to the weaker sections of the society, a citizen body has set up a legal aid clinic (LAC) in DLF Phase-1. The clinic, which was inaugurated on Monday by former Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court DS Tewatia, will be the first privately run legal centre in Gurgaon.

The aim of this clinic is to provide an inexpensive aid for rendering legal service of basic nature like legal advice, drafting of petition, application and other documents.

The clinic will also spread legal awareness to the uneducated. Any resident whose annual income does not exceed R1.5 lakh can avail the service.

"Besides, members of backward class, women, senior citizens, freedom fighters, riot victims, ex-servicemen and transgender can also avail the free legal service in special cases," said a member of the Gurgaon Citizens Council (GCC) that has set up the clinic.

Narender Kaur, chief judicial magistrate, Gurgaon, said that this clinic would benefit the poor by making them aware of legal processes.

"This is the first clinic in Gurgaon established specifically for helping the locals. The cell will help protect the poor against injustice and secure their rights," she said.
