MCG joint commissioner Vivek Kalia issued the attachment order and MCG officials sealed two properties in Sector 37 on Friday.

The two properties were residential buildings with three floors each. A building located on plot number 549, owed MCG over ₹7.5 lakh property tax and another located on plot 549 has a pending due of over ₹8.1 lakh.

“These establishments were sealed for failing to pay their dues under the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994. The
process of sending attachment notices has been completed and property owners failing to clear their dues within the stipulated time will lead to MCG
attaching the establishment and auctioning the same for recovery,” Kalia said.

An MCG official confirmed that most properties out of the 604 establishments that have
been issued attachment notices need to clear their dues by February 28.

“The MCG collected over ₹60 lakh in property tax on Thursday and Friday. To encourage property tax payment, the MCG has offered a 25% waiver in arrears of property tax defaulters till February 28. The MCG is expecting to collect more revenue in the coming days,” SS Rohilla, spokesperson of the MCG, said.

Owing to a 68% drop in the MCG’s property tax collection in 2016, officials advanced the date of sending notices to increase tax collection prior to the culmination of the financial year in March.
