The 9km stretch of Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway between Rajiv Chowk and Kherki Daula has a major design flaw. It does not have a proper drainage system leading to waterlogging on the main carriageway during monsoon.

The effect of the poor drainage system was such that the service lanes as well as the main carriage started developing cracks soon after the expressway was made operational in January 2008.
One of the main reasons is that the concessionaire did not lay the new system in concurrence with the old one, laid by the civic body years ago. The concerned authority must address the issue on a priority basis and the level of the expressway should be increased to avoid the problem of waterlogging. The concessionaire has not yet re-carpeted the service roads or fixed the potholes.
Besides, after months of struggle by the residents, the authorities have constructed two foot overbridges (FOBs) and a couple of subways on the stretch. A flyover at the Hero Honda Chowk to solve the problem of crossover of is still a distant dream.
The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), the union ministry of road transport and highways and the Haryana government should have examined the design of the expressway properly before awarding the bid.
