Gurgaon: now, traffic violators to pay fine on spot

With this, the police will issue challans through hand-held gadgets and violators have to pay fine on the spot.

The police have bought four machines and these will be distributed in the East area as per the volume of traffic.

The trial run was conducted at the Galleria Market road by joint commissioner of police, Maheshwar Dayal.

Following the successful trials, the department plans to commission e-challans in a fully operational manner throughout the city. The cost of each machine is around R35,000. There is no facility to use credit/debit cards on this. Initially, 50 police personnel would be trained to operate the device.

Joint commissioner of police Maheshwar Dayal told HT, “We wanted to modify our system of challaning to ensure transparency among the residents. The manual system of issuing challans takes time and can be tampered with. e-challaning is much easier. Everything will be recorded on the server.”

This would not only save the time of cops, but will also do away with the confusion caused while issuing challans.

The trial will be conducted for the next 15 days and based on the device performance, more devices will be ordered.

The move comes in the wake of the traffic police receiving complaints from residents about traffic personnel harassing them, asking for bribe and tampering with the challans.
