The city’s Palam Vihar area was found flooded with sewer water even on Sunday as Haryana Urban Development Authority (Huda) officials remained confused about which division the area lies in.
On Saturday, Gurgaon received 102 mm rainfall, the highest among all districts in Haryana. The incessant shower for more than five hours once again exposed the lack of preparedness of the authorities in tackling problems of waterlogging.
Palam Vihar was one of the worst-affected areas in the city with two feet of water still inundating blocks D and E till Sunday afternoon. Block I in New Palam Vihar was also caught in knee-deep water.
Two sub-divisional officers were deployed by the Huda administrator to inspect the problem site on Sunday. They, however, left without providing a solution as the area reportedly did not fall under their ambit.
“We agree the problem is genuine but the area is not under my jurisdiction and the residents need to contact officials from division-I,” said BD Yadav, one of the officers.
Residents claimed that because of the apathy of Huda, the area has been suffering from such an ordeal for over two decades. “People are still not able to come out of their houses as there is over two feet of water on the premises. This is all due to Huda’s insensitive and insensible planning of draining water,” said Sunil Yadav, president, RWA, Palam Vihar.
