Gurgaon: Poor signage confuses commuters at Cyber City

Cyber City is home to several multinational companies and is also the quickest route from the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway to Golf Course Road and other areas on its extension road.

Signage meant to assist commuters and ensure smooth traffic in Cyber City is ending up confusing commuters due to the small size of the boards and the lack of clarity regarding directions.

Two key areas are being affected by this. One, the exit on the road where commuters have to decide whether to take the underpass to Cyber Hub or travel towards Golf Course Road, and two, the entrance to the CyberHub underpass itself, where a sign points in different directions, adding to commuters’ confusion.

Cyber City is home to several multinational companies and is also the quickest route from the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway to Golf Course Road and other areas on its extension road. Hence, it gets heavy traffic movement and the confusion caused by the signage has been leading to traffic snarls in the area.

“I did not spot any signage and missed the exit to the CyberHub underpass altogether. I realised my mistake after I reached the Sikanderpur underpass, but it was too late to turn back. The lack of proper signage caused me a 20-minute delay and a 4km diversion. I kept wondering why a city like Gurgaon with such a high quality of life cannot have proper signage to direct commuters,” said Dhruv Virmani of Shanti Niketan.

Officials of DLF (which jointly built the underpasses and constructed the roads between Shankar Chowk and Golf Course Extension Road with the Haryana Urban Development Authority) did not want to comment on the matter. However, it is learned that the issue of signage in the area has been discussed after getting feedback from commuters and solutions are being worked on.
