Gurgaon resident duped of Rs 35000

A construction supervisor was allegedly cheated of Rs 35,000 when two unidentified men switched his ATM card with a fake one on Friday afternoon. Rama Shankar, hailing from Allahabad and staying in a rented accommodation at Bhondsi, had gone to the ATM of Punjab National Bank on the premises of Omaxe Mall. Leena Dhankhar reports.

A construction supervisor was allegedly cheated of Rs 35,000 when two unidentified men switched his ATM card with a fake one on Friday afternoon. Rama Shankar, hailing from Allahabad and staying in a rented accommodation at Bhondsi, had gone to the ATM of Punjab National Bank on the premises of Omaxe Mall.

When Shankar reached the ATM, two men were already withdrawing cash. The duo left after five minutes and Shankar entered the booth.

“When I was checking my balance, the two men returned. I asked them to stay out as I was still completing my transaction. The men said they wanted to check their receipt lying inside. I withdrew Rs 15,000 and placed my card on the ATM machine. When I was counting the cash, the duo exchanged my debit card. They handed me the ATM card and I went home,” Rama Shankar told HT on Saturday.

“After an hour, I received an SMS on my mobile that Rs 10,000 had been withdrawn from my account and Rs 25,000 had been transferred to an account in Punjab National Bank. The account holder is a resident of Devli Gaon in New Delhi,” Shankar added.

“We are trying to get clues from the CCTV footage of the ATM booth,” a policeman said.
