Gurgaon: Two more dengue cases confirmed, total this year rises to 11

Both patients are residents of Badshahpur and are undergoing treatment at Gurgaon civil hospital

The health department on Thursday confirmed two more cases of dengue in the city. This year so far 11 confirmed cases of dengue have been registered, officials said.

The two dengue patients are from Badshahpur area and are undergoing treatment at the civil hospital.Both the patients are men and are 25 and 30 years old. They were admitted to the hospital with high fever on Monday.

According to the doctors, they are being treated and are expected to recover within a week.

“We have our epidemic ward well-equipped to deal with patients suffering from dengue fever. We have also asked our staff to carry out fogging in the area where the patients are from,” Dr. BK Rajora, chief medical officer, civil hospital, Gurgaon, said.

The health department has advised residents to take caution and increase the fluid intake in case they catch a cold or flu.

The doctors have also advised people to go for dengue test even if they are down with normal fever.

“I have attended to 10-15 patients showing symptoms of dengue this week. We’re worried over the increase in the number of dengue cases. As mosquitoes, which are considered dengue-carriers, breed in fresh water, we will draw up a new map of the city highlighting places where dengue cases have been reported.We will start work on the map from next week,” Dr. SS Saroha, deputy medical officer, civil hospital, said.

The city reported its first confirmed dengue case this season on July 28. A 22-year-old man, resident of Sector 45, was diagnosed with the disease.

Last year, the city hit a four-year high with regard to the number of dengue cases, with the district health department recording 401 cases. In 2015, the city reported 381 cases, up from 86 in 2014, 175 in 2013 and 375 in 2012.
