Gurgaon Universal Aura buyers protest delay in delivery

Universal Aura Buyers alleged that despite paying almost 80% to 90% of the cost of the apartment, only 50% work has been completed and work on the project has been stalled for the last three years.

After failing to get flats delivered even three years after crossing the deadline, buyers of Universal Aura project on Tuesday protested at the office of the Department of Town and Country Planning in Sector 14 on Tuesday.

Buyers alleged that despite paying almost 80% to 90% of the cost of the apartment, only 50% work has been completed and work on the project has been stalled for the last three years.

Universal Aura project in Sector 82 was launched in 2010, and it was expected to be delivered by the beginning of 2014 but none of the buyers have been given possession so far. The project comprises 10 towers and 585 flats were sold by the developer.

Buyers, who protested at the DTCP office, said they were suffering because of the delay in the project. “I had booked the apartment when I was single, but now, I have a family of four and there is no hope of getting the flat. EMIs are being paid for the loan and rent is to be paid too but there is no hope of getting my property,” Dheeraj Kumar, a telecom professional, who has invested neary ₹50 lakh in the project, said.

The buyers who called upon the DTCP officials also requested them to either ensure speedy delivery or get their funds returned.

Assistant town planner RS Bhath said the department will conduct a joint site inspection in the next few days, and has asked the developer to give the exact timelines. “We have also listed this matter in the next allottees grievances redressal forum in mid-March. The department will take all steps to ensure that delivery of flats is done as per rules,” Bhath said. He also called up one of the directors of the company on Tuesday, asking about the inspection.

Pooja Sharma, head (legal), Universal Buildwell Pvt Ltd, denied the allegations of delay in delivery and said the company considered it as a premium project, which would be completed at all costs. She also said work on the project has been delayed because some of the buyers went to a consumer court, leading to legal obstacles.
