Currently, the affordable housing scheme of 2013 offers housing options at Rs 4,000 per sqft. If the new policy is implemented, the rates will be as low as Rs 2,000 per sqft. This means, one can buy a 2-bedroom house of about 500sqft at Rs 10 lakh in Gurgaon, Khattar said at a CREDAI conclave in New Delhi.

For this, the state government is planning to develop housing in semi-rural or urbanised villages.

“A third category ‘Nagar Panchayat’ would be created for the villages in Haryana with a population 10,000-30,000 and those villages that do not want to come under the municipal committees/corporations/councils. Nagar Panchayats will make arrangements for sewerage, water, roads and electricity. We have formed a sub-committee of ministers that is already in touch with various agencies, including developers. One of the developers has approached us and offered to build houses at the rate of Rs 1,520 per sq ft in Gurgaon,” Khattar said.
