Haryana to take up e-way buyout with highway body

The Haryana government will hold talks with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) this month over its proposal to buy out the operational rights of the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway, Deevakar Anand reports.

The state government has been mulling over the proposal to ensure hassle-free movement for motorists on the 28-km expressway.

“I have already spoken with CP Joshi (Union transport minister) over the issue. Since the contract to operate the toll can be awarded by the NHAI (a body under the ministry), we are holding a meeting later this month to discuss the proposal further,” chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda told HT on the sidelines of the inauguration of a new rail link at Rewari.

According to sources in the expressway concessionaire DGSCL, the buyback value of the stretch is Rs. 2,300 crore.

Hooda said that the cost will also be discussed during the proposed meeting with the NHAI officials later this month.

In 2002, NHAI had awarded the build-operate-transfer project to Jaypee DSC Ltd, which is now Delhi Gurgaon Super Connectivity Ltd (DGSCL). The company had spent about Rs. 1,240 cr to construct the expressway.

The DGSCL owns the rights of operating the expressway and collecting toll till 2028.
