Institute failed to take action against ‘molester’ teacher

The city police today arrested a lecturer of University Institute of Law and Management Studies (UILMS) after a third year law student alleged that the accused had molested and harassed her.

The city police on Monday arrested a lecturer of University Institute of Law and Management Studies (UILMS) after a third year law student alleged that the accused had molested and harassed her.

“A case under sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the accused,” said Jaiprakash, station house officer of the Sector 40 police station.

Students of the UILMS disrupted traffic outside the campus for several hours on Monday and raised slogans against the college management. According to sources, the police had tough time controlling the agitated students. They wanted the management to prevent recurrence of such crimes on the campus.

The protesters were angry as the management failed to take action on the victim’s complaint though she had filed the complaint two days ago.

However, the police said they did not waste time and immediately arrested the accused after they received the complaint from the victim.

Students said if timely action is not taken such incidents would keep on happening.
