Job consultant booked for raping former air hostess

An Amritsar-based job consultant was booked on charges of raping a 22-year-old out-of-work air hostess repeatedly on the pretext of getting her a job and marrying her. According to the police, the former airhostess met consultant on a social networking website.

An Amritsar-based job consultant was booked on charges of raping a 22-year-old out-of-work air hostess repeatedly on the pretext of getting her a job and marrying her.

The FIR in the case was registered at Civil Lines police station in Gurgaon on Monday and the case transferred to Nehru Place police station on Tuesday. The accused was identified as Rohit Handa.

According to the police, the former airhostess of a private airlines met Handa on a social networking website last year. They became friends gradually and exchanged phone numbers. They also started chatting on BlackBerry Messenger (BBM).

After developing acquaintance with the woman, Handa concocted a story about he had been forced by his parents to marry a woman whom he did not love. He assured the woman that he would divorce his wife soon.

Handa told the woman that he was in the export business of marketing and import of aviation turbine fuel (ATF). He also bragged to her that he was in contact with MRPL Aviation Fuel Services Private Ltd and that they charge commission from him to get their tender passed, said the police.

On April 20 last year, Handa called up the woman saying he had an offer letter of a cabin crew manager from Swiss Airlines for her and that he needed to meet her to give it to her.

When the woman came to meet Handa, he took her out for dinner and served her drinks. After she was unconscious, he took her to a hotel in Nehru Place and allegedly raped her. He also clicked her pictures and switched off her mobile phone.

Later Handa threatened the woman with dire consequences if she told anyone about what had happened. He told her his father was a minister from Punjab and could ruin her life.

Recently, the woman spoke to Handa’s wife and found out that they were happily married and he had no plans to divorce her.

According to the police, the woman is mentally disturbed and had contemplated suicide.

DCP (west) Surinder Pal said: “After medical examination confirmed rape, we registered an FIR and transferred the case to Nehru Place police station. They will conduct further investigation. The statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code was taken at a court in Gurgaon.”
