Nirvana Country signs MoU with Fresco to use treated sewage water in Gurugram

As per the memorandum of understanding(MoU), Nirvana Country RWA will use 2-3 lakh litres of treated sewage water from Fresco Apartments, starting April.

Nirvana Country is a low-rise housing complex, which disposes its sewage directly into the master sewer of Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). However, it requires water for horticulture that it gets through private tankers.

Fresco Apartments, on the other hand, is a high-rise group housing society that treats its sewage water at a treatment plant located within the society premises, as it does not have access or connection to the GMDA master line. Fresco Apartments generates 5 to 6 lakh litres of treated sewage water daily, of which the society uses 1 to 1.5 lakh litres for its horticulture and disposes off the unused water in an open area outside the society compound.

“We will lay a sewage line up to the Nirvana periphery and they will lay their own line for their society to use sewage water,” said Tandon.

Sundar Kalra, RWA president of Nirvana Country, said, “We will start using Fresco’s treated sewage water from March-end hopefully.” Despite repeated calls, and text messages, Hindustan Times did not elicit any response from the developer, Unitech.

Lalit Arora, chief engineer, GMDA, said, “We give relaxation in the monthly water bills to RWAs for using 80% sewage water and more.”
