Apart from increasing the number of services on the current routes, the DTC is considering to run buses on routes such as Dhaula Kuan-Gurgaon.

The move is important as the Delhi government plans to start the second phase of the odd-even road rationing policy on April 15. When the policy was rolled out for the first time in January, commuters had complained about the lack of public transport options between the NCR cities.

“DTC to explore the possibility of running buses on special routes i.e, from Dhaula Kuan to Gurgaon, Nehru Place to Noida etc,” Delhi transport minister Gopal Rai tweeted after convening a meeting with various nodal departments to discuss modalities regarding the second phase of the odd-even policy.

Now, more than 150 DTC buses run between the two cities via Badarpur, Dhaula Kuan, Karol Bagh, and Anand Vihar ISBT routes every day. However, these services are not operating in an orgnised manner.

Sources said the DTC plans to run more buses to Gurgaon from Najafgarh, Indira Gandhi International Airport and New Delhi Railway Station. The Delhi government might also allow private operators to run buses on long routes connecting the national capital and Gurgaon.

Rai also said that unlike the last time when only pollution in the national capital was monitored, in the second phase of odd-even policy, the environment department will install air quality monitoring equipment in Gurgaon and Noida as well.
