Police identified the deceased as Santosh, 38, and her son Anand alias Sonu, 19. They were riding a Honda Activa when the accident happened. Santosh’s husband Vijay Pal had passed away.

This is the fourth fatal accident on the expressway since Sunday.

Eyewitnesses said the accident happened around 8:30pm near Signature Tower flyover entry towards Chakkarpur village in DLF Phase 1. As the two-wheeler reached the expressway entry point, the tanker coming from the service lane entered the main carriageway at high speed and hit the two-wheeler, throwing the mother and son on the main carriageway.

“The maroon colour Honda Activa (HR 26 CM 8389) was hit by the tanker (HR 55 2261) near the entry. The tanker fled from the accident site,” an eyewitness said.

A case of death due to negligence will be filed against the unknown driver of the tanker, police said.

“The two died on the spot. The family is registering a case and we are in the process of filing an FIR against the driver of the tanker,” SHO Ram Kumar said.

The accident resulted in a mile-long traffic snarl on the expressway towards Delhi. Long snarls were reported from Rajiv Chowk to Signature Tower. The road was cleared around 10pm.

On Sunday night, a 48-year-old private contractor died on the spot after a heavy vehicle hit him near milestone 32 on the expressway.

On Monday morning, a 30-year old man was crushed to dead after a Tata Tempo hit his bicycle near Rimjhim Hotel on the expressway service lane near Kherki Daula.
