With just 65 families living in a 25-acre area, the locality has become an easy target for miscreants.

Despite repeated complaints to the authorities, no action has been taken and the residents find it tough to leave their homes even to go the market or attend a function.

The residents alleged that they feel insecure due to the lack of a boundary wall and gates that can keep the colony secure. Residents alleged that their sector remains a thoroughfare to Jharsa village and adjacent sectors.

The residents’ welfare association (RWA) members are finding it difficult to control the movement of vehicles as there are multiple entry and exit points in the sector.

“The thefts are taking place regularly, we have fewer guards and there are multiple entry and exit points, which they have to man. The sector cannot be secured unless we build a boundary wall,” said Daya Chand Thakran, RWA president.

The batteries of generator sets are also stolen often and the residents now keep the generator set chained and locked. But even then, thieves manage make away with it, residents said.

In a recent case of theft, a family had gone out of town when their air-conditioner was stolen.

“We need to deploy more guards and ensure a record is maintained, but for that a lot more resources are needed,” said Ravinder Khatri, RWA secretary.

Recently, the thieves stole fibe LPG cylinders from the first floor of a house.

Amarjeet Thakran, a resident, had kept the gas cylinders in the balcony on the intervening night of May 18 and 19 and found them missing the next morning, “From a safety point of view, I always keep cylinders in the balcony. In the morning, when I woke up, the gas cylinders were missing. Since the adjacent plot is vacant, the thieves used a ladder and I am perturbed as to how they managed to flee with full cylinders,” Thakran said.

The Sadar police station, where theset theft complaints have been registered, has deployed a PCR van that makes several rounds of the society during the day.

“The construction of a boundary wall around the colony will bring relief to residents as the colony is open from all sides and its roads are used as thoroughfare. We have deployed our teams in the area to ensure the thefts are curbed,” inspector Vijay Kumar, SHO, Sadar police station.
