Heavy vehicles are allowed to enter the city only after 10pm but most flout the rules.

To prevent rising accidents, the police have decided to rein in the errant truck drivers.

The containers and trucks add to the traffic chaos and spur massive jams in narrow city lanes.

“In order to curb increasing accidents involving heavy vehicles, we have restricted the movement of buses and trucks within the city. The haphazard movement of heavy vehicles put commuters' life in danger apart from hampering movement of traffic. We have started imposing fines for violating traffic rules,” said a senior traffic police official.

In April this year, the police had seized six Maruti Suzuki containers after they violated the no-entry rule. The drivers were not even carrying the required documents.

According to the police, a heavy vehicle cannot enter the main city from 6am to 10pm.
