“In 2012, more than 5.63 lakh births and 1.60 lakh deaths were registered in the state. The facility of registration of births has been provided to the common man at primary health centers (PHCs) and the shortcomings in the system have been removed by way of regular monitoring at the state level,” a spokesperson of the health department said.

The department has made arrangements for registration of births in rural areas through Anganwadi and health workers. Therefore, parents need not run helter-skelter to register the birth of their children. On getting births registered through a health worker, the birth certificate is issued free of cost.

The spokesman said that with the strengthening of civil registration system, various indicators, including sex ratio, were being marked by compiling the figures of births and deaths.

According to the 2011 Census, Haryana’s sex ratio was 877 women for 1,000 males. Gurgaon scored the least in the state with 853 females for every 1,000 males.
