According to the deputy commissioner, the new design will ensure smooth passage to commuters heading straight from Mahavir chowk to Iffco Chowk via Sukhrali.

“The underpass is a must for those travelling straightway to and from Iffco Chowk and Mahavir Chowk via village Sukhrali,” said the DC, adding that the PWD has been asked to work on this aspect and report in a week’s time.

As per the latest feasibility report prepared by a private architect, the underpass is proposed in L-shape at MDI Chowk so that the commuters coming from Mahavir chowk can use underpass to reach NH-8 and further towards Iffco Chowk.

The facility is likely to bring relief to thousands of commuters who use the busy intersection on a daily basis. It will also help reduce traffic congestion on other roads in the city.

PWD’s senior official NK Tomar refused to comment on the matter.
