In a move that may soon decongest IMT roads, Maruti Suzuki is likely to get 80 acres of land to develop a rail siding facility beside its Manesar plant.

A declaration of requirement to acquire the land under Section 6 of the Land Acquisition Act 1894 has been made and we shall award the land within two months, said a senior official.
The nearly five-kilometre-long low-speed rail track will connect the automaker's plant with the Delhi-Ahmedabad rail line. It will facilitate easier transportation of raw materials and finished cars to other cities, sea ports and airports.
As a result, hundreds of trucks that ferry newly-manufactured cars out of the Maruti's Manesar plant will go off the roads, easing the daily traffic snarls here.
The rail siding facility will come up along the upcoming Kundli-Manesar-Palwal expressway that runs along the Industrial Model Township (IMT) in Manesar.
Around 8,000 heavy vehicles that cater to several industries in Manesar make a beeline to enter and exit the township from IMT Chowk daily, disrupting traffic movement on the busy Delhi-Jaipur highway.
At present, thousands of trucks carry Maruti cars from its Gurgaon and Manesar plants to the railway station in Gurgaon where there is a dedicated yard for loading cars. These trucks use the Sheetla Mata Road to reach the station.
