The residents of Sector 31 have written to the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pardhikaran (HSVP) and the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), seeking demolition of five houses built in a park and currently occupied by government officials.

The one acre park in Sector 31 is known as ‘Children Park’.
Residents’ welfare association (RWA) of the sector wants HSVP and MCG to take appropriate action to remove the structures, some of them were built over two decades ago.
JR Awasthi, RWA general secretary, said, “About one fourth land of the park has two big dwelling units and three small dwelling units. The big houses are occupied by senior government officials, while the small ones are occupied by some junior level officials. This is a park and it cannot be used for any construction. We had met HSVP officials two months ago and sent a reminder to HSVP administrator Chander Shekhar Khare also on Monday. Residents want restoration of the park.”
One of the two big dwelling units is currently occupied by NS Yadav, sub divisional officer (SDO), horticulture, HSVP, and second one is occupied by Satbir Singh, also an SDO, GMDA.

“This house (or structure) was constructed in 1996 and since then we are living here. We have allotment letter from then HSVP administrator,” said Satbir Singh.
HSVP developed this sector in 1990-91. It has now transferred all its sectors of the city to MCG for civic maintenance.
“We have been living here since 2001 after it was allotted to us by the HSVP. We have no idea whether it was built legally or illegally. Some HSVP officials were living here before we shifted in this house,” said NS Yadav.
HSVP developed 42 plotted sectors in Gurugram since 1975-76.
When asked about the issue, the HSVP administrator said, “I will get it checked as I have not received any such complaints in this regard.”
MCG commissioner Yashpal Yadav said he will take up the issue with HSVP to address it. “MCG alone cannot resolve this complex issue. Similar problems exist in other sectors also,” Yadav said.
