Gurgaon: Sewage spillover continues on DLF Phase 4 main road

Even though the road is close to the office of DCP (traffic) and is connected to Sushant Lok, another upscale area of the city, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has turned a blind eye towards it.

A resident of DLF Phase 4, Mohan Guruswamy, said the situation was worse in his locality. “We have complained several times but in vain. Whenever it rains, the condition worsens. It is difficult to travel on the road even in a car. We have been facing the same problem for the last four years, “ Guruswamy said.

Many residents had similar grievances. “This not only affects our health, but the foundation of my home has become weak as well. The foul smell is unbearable and we have to live with it every day,” Gurbinder Singh, another resident, said.

Pinaki Paul, who is regretting his decision of relocating to Gurgaon from Delhi said, “I built my home here six months ago. We faced drainage problems in Delhi too, but nothing like this.”

The residents mentioned that after they complained to the builder, DLF, it cleaned the drain several times. However, the problem persists as the maintenance of the sewage was being undertaken by the MCG, residents said.

When HT approached DLF Estate Developers Limited, vice-president Baljeet Singh said, “We are very unhappy with the situation. The drain belongs to the MCG and we cannot do the civic work. Even after repeated complaints, no action has been initiated by the department concerned.

”However, MCG councillor Sunita Yadav said that they were aware of the situation and were working with the authority to resolve the problem. “The issue is critical as the drain, which connects to the master network of the Haryana urban development authority (Huda), fails to function smoothly as a result of which the sewage overflows on to the road. We have taken up the matter with the Huda officials and we hope to solve the issue at the earliest.”
