Soft skills training for women cops

To impart language skills to women police personnel deputed at city Metro stations, experts from the Haryana Institute of Public Administration (HIPA) and BPOs have joined hands to formulate a training module for three months.

To be conducted in two shifts, the training would be held at the office of deputy commissioner of police (traffic) in Sector 51 and stands mandatory for all women officers.

After Hindustan Times published a report on Monday tilted ‘Communication Gap: Experts to train women cops’, the department has received several calls from volunteers offering to hold free training sessions.

The traffic department has, however, roped in language experts who train BPO staff. DCP (east) Maheshwar Dayal said, “The language barrier has become a growing problem. During crisis situations, we cannot afford language problems to hamper police action.”

Deepali Jain, a freelancer voice and expert trainer working on the module, said, “We will focus on English language, correct ways to address people, interaction programmes with a foreigner or outstation visitor, formation of sentences, personality development and soft skills.”
