Tag users who commute daily on the highway find it difficult to recharge tags as there is only one recharge outlet at the Kherki Daula toll plaza. Furthermore, the outlet is present on one side of the highway — from Jaipur to Gurgaon.

“To get the tag recharged, a commuter has to enter the cash lane, pay the toll, take a U-turn, and then come back towards Gurgaon to reach the recharge booth. The long queue in the cash lane and the heavy traffic before the U-turn ensure that we waste a lot of time,” said Aseem Takyar, a resident.

The reply to an RTI query revealed that a total of Rs.78.9 crore has been collected at the toll plaza between November 1, 2015, and April 30, 2016. The toll plaza is under the jurisdiction of Millennium City Expressways Private Limited (MCEPL).

Users say that while crores of rupees is collected by the highway concessionaire as toll, no commensurate facilities have been created.

Suman Chawla, general secretary, Manesar Industries Welfare Association, said: “There is too much traffic at the toll plaza and vehicles get mixed in cash and tag lanes. Getting the tag recharged is a cumbersome exercise.”

As far as developing the online facility is concerned, MCEPL CEO S Raghuraman said the online recharge facility is still under development and the facility will be made available soon. However, no timeline has been given for this purpose.

Manmohan Gaind, industrialist, said, “Time is wasted at the toll plaza due to jams, fuel is lost as vehicles keep on idling. We need to get it removed as neither tags nor cash is a solution.”
