Two-day cultural festival to be held in Gurgaon on March 25

Dance and music performances will be held in the Gurugram Kala Utsav in Rangbhoomi in Sector 29

Gurugram Kala Utsav, a two-day cultural festival showcasing dance and music of various states, will be held in Gurgaon from March 25. The dance and music performances will be held in the open air theatre in Rangbhoomi, Sector 29, from 6pm to 9pm.

The event is being organised by Nritya Dhara, a Gurgaon-based Odissi dance institute, and Ashray, a non-profit socio-cultural organisation, in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG).

Around 40 artistes from various states such as Odisha, Manipur, Haryana, Goa, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are to perform at the event.

“The aim of organising the festival is to promote and popularise classical music and dance. Residents had long been demanding to see Gotipua dance, one of Odisha’s traditional dance forms, and Kuchipudi dance from Andhra Pradesh,” said Vani Madhav, festival director.

“Proceeds from the programmes will help folk music, folk artistes and artisans of different states. The festival will be a treat for people who are unable to attend classical music and dance performances otherwise,” said Madhav.

In addition to the performances, there will be 10 food stalls at the festival carrying cuisine from various states. Visitors can also attend literary meets, handicrafts exhibitions, workshops and other activities. Entry to the festival is free, but on a first-come-first-serve basis.

Organisers said they are expecting around 1,000 visitors during the two days of the event.
