DCP (east) Maheshwar Dayal said, "The Mall Mile is over-congested with vehicles. We don't want vehicles to be parked on the road else they will be towed away in future."

Boards will be displayed on the road guiding commuters to park their vehicles in the basement of malls.

On Wednesday, a police team visited the Mall Mile and inspected all the parking lots. The team found that 70% of the parking areas were vacant but the service lanes were full to the brim. The Gurgaon police are also coming up with a new plan to ban heavy vehicles on MG Road. The vehicles will be diverted from other routes to reach Mehrauli. Trucks moving during night make the road more congested, said the police.

Recently, the MG Road was made hawker free to ease congestion on the stretch.

"As several cases of chain-snatching have been reported on the Mall Mile, the move had become the need of the hour," said the police.
