Woman among three held for Jharsa Road daylight murder

The role of two other accused — Sanjay and Naveen— who were named in the FIR by Rana’s wife is also being investigated, police said. The arrested persons were remanded in five-day police custody for further questioning.

Three persons, including a woman, were arrested for gunning down a man last Friday on Jharsa Road, one of the busiest roads in Gurgaon, police said on Friday.

Ravinder, Satpal and Bala Devi were arrested for killing 33-year-old Surender Rana in broad daylight on July 28, the police said.

While Ravinder and Satpal hail from Jhajjar district of Haryana, Bala is a resident of Gurgaon Sector 17.

“Money dispute was the reason behind the killing but it was not a planned murder,” deputy commissioner of police (crime) Sumit Kuhar told reporters.

“Rana refused to distribute cash among the accused after a plot deal matured a few months ago. The three were on their way in a Santro when they spotted Rana sitting inside his Tata SUV. After a heated argument, Rana was shot five times with his own licensed pistol,” the officer said.

“The accused had confronted Rana over the money earlier as well. A case was registered against them at a city police station in 2016,” Kuhar said.

Police said after the incident, the accused switched off their mobile phones.

Karambir Khatana, SHO, Civil Lines police station, said he relentlessly conducted searches since Friday to arrest the accused. “Both Satpal and Ravinder are criminals and it was after a lot of effort that they were arrested,”he said.
