There are several reasons why people get stuck in the trap of various addictions. The first is the age at which a person gets initiated into a particular addiction. The younger the age of the person, the higher are their chances of turning addicts.

Another reason why young people try drugs is curiosity and peer pressure. A lot of young adults get pressured to try a drug to be included into a group or accepted as an adult in their peer group. Some drugs like amphetamines are used by young people to boost performance and may be used in top medical and engineering colleges, as well as by sportspersons.

Smoking

The second reason why people may fall prey to addictions is the family and social environment. In environments where alcohol is consumed as a practice, young members are highly likely to fall into a consumption pattern and get addicted. However, all people who are subjected to an environment rich in alcohol or drugs do not turn into addicts. There are certain factors that increase a person’s vulnerability:

A family condition of neglect from parents and severe conflicts at home.

Parents who expose the children to family violence.

Emotionally weak mothers and kids.

A parent who is already an addict or alcoholic.

Parents who do not supervise the kind of company the child keeps.

Parents and kids who have a personality type that looks for instant gratification at any cost.

Parents and kids who have a personality type that is unable to face failure.

A very high risk-taking behaviour coupled with an irresponsible personality.

According to certain research studies, a combination of a personality type coupled with an unhealthy family atmosphere also contributes to addictions, though debate is still on as to whether an addictive personality type exists.
