12 Years a Slave, American Hustle and Gravity are among the top contenders to be shortlisted for the top award, the BBC reported.
The nominations are going to be announced on January 16 with the Academy Awards being held on March 2.
Ampas published the full list of films put forward on its website, which includes other likely award nominees Captain Philips, Philomena and Nebraska.
The list also includes films like After Earth, Fast and Furious 6, Grown Ups 2, Diana and One Direction documentary, This Is Us.
