The movie will follow the same course as the 17-year-old video game saga, which was relaunched at the start of March with a reboot. Tomb Raider allows players to follow a young Lara Croft during the event that shaped her personality.
MGM and GK Films will collaborate with Square Enix Ltd video games studio on the project, which is currently at the pre-production stage.
The name of the actress who will play the lead has not yet been revealed. Angelina Jolie played Lara Croft twice, in 2001 and 2003.
