Cheryl Boone Isaacs has been appointed the first black president of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences.
A marketing executive, she is only the third woman to hold the post since the Academy was born 86 years ago.
Boone Isaacs succeeds Hawk Koch, who had to leave after a year, because the Academy rules do not permit any president to serve more than nine consecutive years.
