. Gere is best known in India for the Julia Roberts-starrer, The Pretty Woman, and his defining moment on an Indian stage was kissing Shilpa Shetty.

The Second Best Marigold Hotel, a British comedy directed by John Madden, is a sequel to the 2012 sleeper hit, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, which earned $ 135 million worldwide.

The latest edition will have a deliciously ensemble cast of Judi Dench, Maggie Smith, Bill Nighy, Celia Imrie, Penelope Wilton, Ronald Pickup, Tena Desae, Dev Patel, Lillete Dubey and David Strathairn along with Gere.

The film will be a rip-roaring wit, British wit – subtle and stylish. One of the funniest moments will be when Gere, essaying an American, named Guy, enters a dining room in the hotel provoking Imrie’s Madge to proclaim, "Lordy Lord, have mercy on my ovaries”.

The Second Best Marigold Hotel will open on March 6 in the UK and elsewhere, but its date with India is still unclear. But it should not be far too long after March 6, because actors like Dench (the famous M in the Bond adventures), Patel and of course Gere are pretty popular in India.

For Gere, the shoot not only gave an opportunity to hang out with the delightful group of British actors, but also a chance to explore Jaipur. A Buddhist, Gere has been to India many times – but mostly to the pilgrim places of the sage.
