The Top Gun sequel may never see the light of day. Tony Scott, the noted Hollywood director who was reportedly working on a sequel of the 1986 blockbuster with actor Tom Cruise, died Sunday night after jumping from a bridge in Los Angeles.
The shocking news of his apparent suicide, which is currently under investigation, made celebrities across the world offer their condolences for him on Twitter. American film director and producer Ron Howard tweeted, “No more Tony Scott movies. Tragic day,” and filmmaker Robert Rodriguez wrote, “Tony Scott. Damn. Great knowing you, buddy. Thanks for the inspiration, advice, encouragement, and the decades of great entertainment.”
Here in India, producer-director Karan Johar also expressed sorrow at the director’s death by tweeting, “RIP Tony Scott....your true romance with cinema will live on forever.”
Scott, the younger brother of filmmaker Ridley Scott, directed 16 films in his career, with his second film, Top Gun, unarguably the best known. He also gave us blockbusters such as Beverly Hills Cop II, Days Of Thunder and Enemy of the State.
