Marvel concept artist Charlie Wen recently revealed unused art for Loki, designed for his first appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2011’s Thor. Taking to his social media accounts, Wen posted a glimpse at Loki’s look, which is way over-the-top than the one we’re used to in the films.

“Wacky Loki! My first sketch of him as someone a bit off for the first Thor There were other options but this is the looniest one so I wanted to share. As I think of his backstory and focused on the manipulative bent than his relationship with his bro Thor which develops later, I put more character depth in his final version,” he said. “At this time I also wanted to play with the idea that Asgard had magic based on science beyond human tech understanding. I’ll post the final Thor I Lokis next!” he teased.
Wen also shared several concepts of Thor’s hammer, Mjölnir, which the God of Thunder used until it was destroyed in Thor: Ragnarok. Thor then forged a new hammer, Stormbreaker, which he used in Avengers: Infinity War.

The Loki design makes him look like a straight-up villain, which he most certainly wasn’t. The character quickly became a fan favourite after the first Thor film, so much so that director Joss Whedon enlisted him as the main villain in the first Avengers movie. The MCU then found ways to retain Loki in every new Thor film, and ended his journey in Infinity War, well aware of the impact his death would have on fans that have grown up with him.
But if leaked set photos from Avengers 4 are to be believed, Loki will make a return in the next film. Set pictures show actor Tom Hiddleston, sporting his old school long locks, back on the Battle of New York set. Rumours suggest that the fourth Avengers movie will include a time travel plot that involves the surviving Avengers returning to a pivotal moment in their lives - the Battle of New York was their first brush with Thanos’ might - and trying to alter events of the future. The future, as fans would know, has half the Avengers ‘dying’ at the hands of Thanos.
Avengers 4 will be released in May, 2019, and is reportedly a significant conclusion to the MCU as we know it.
