Hollywood actor Michelle Williams has spoken out against US censors who have given her new film,

Blue Valentine
, an adult certificate. Williams is appealing against the rating, saying that it will limit the scope of the film. “Our film does not depict violence, rape or torture, it’s simply a candid look at the difficulties couples face in sustaining their relationships over time,” she said in a press statement.
Michelle stars with actor Ryan Gosling in the film, which has been given an NC-17 stamp by censors. “The decision unmasks a taboo in our culture that an honest portrayal of a relationship is more threatening than a sensationalised one,” said the 30-year-old actor. Williams is currently in London filming
My Week With Marilyn
, in which she plays Hollywood icon Marilyn Monroe.
