In wedding world, there are very few things worse than not having a fresh set of nails on when your beau goes down on one knee to propose to you. While ring reveal photos can always be taken 'later', wouldn't you just prefer the real moment to be captured in real time and broadcast it to the world? Blake Asaad, Founder and Creative Director of Goodstone, spills the beans on the best manicure finish depending on the cut of your ring.

Almond nails for oval rings

Oval-cut engagement rings carry a gentle, romantic charm and create the illusion of longer, slimmer fingers. Almond-shaped nails beautifully echo this same graceful look. Blake says, “Almond nails echo the gentle curves of an oval stone. Both shapes create that elongated, feminine look without any harsh angles. It's a pairing that feels naturally cohesive, like they were designed to complement each other.”

Squoval nails for round rings

Round brilliant cuts are classic and perfectly balanced, making them ideal to pair with a nail shape that reflects that symmetry. The 'squoval' look offers the perfect mix of both styles. He clarifies, "Squoval nails have just enough softness to feel approachable, but they maintain a polished, structured appearance. With a round brilliant ring, you want symmetry and balance, and squoval nails deliver exactly that."

Coffin nails for emerald cut

Emerald cut rings showcase sleek lines and a refined, Art Deco-style look. Coffin (or ballerina) nails complement this contemporary sophistication with their narrowed shape and squared-off tip. Blake suggests, “Emerald cuts are all about sleek geometry and refinement. Coffin nails have that same architectural quality. They're bold and contemporary, which makes them ideal for someone who wants their engagement photos to feel fashion-forward.”

Square nails for princess cut

Princess cut rings are sharply defined and radiate intense brilliance. Square nails naturally echo the clean, angular lines of this cut. He explains, “When you have a princess cut, you're working with strong, defined edges. Square nails echo those same lines, creating a cohesive look that feels intentional and polished.”

Stiletto or tapered nails for pear shaped rings

Pear shaped rings blend a rounded, sparkling end with a refined point, forming their signature teardrop silhouette. Stiletto or tapered almond nails reflect this striking shape perfectly. "Pear-shaped stones have such a unique character. Stiletto nails pick up on that pointed element and amplify the ring's elegance. It's a bold choice that makes a statement," says Blake.

Oval nails for marquise cut

Marquise cut rings have a long, pointed silhouette that’s often selected for its finger-lengthening effect. Oval nails complement this by adding graceful length without detracting from the ring’s unique shape. Blake concludes, “Marquise cuts already create that elegant, stretched look. Oval-shaped nails support that same visual line without adding too many competing points. The result is a hand that looks graceful and refined.”
