A Thar SUV carrying five friends from Agra to Mussoorie crashed into a road divider near Belda roundabout in Saharanpur, killing three and seriously injuring two.

The five were travelling from Agra to Mussoorie for a holiday when the accident occurred near Belda roundabout, police said. The impact was so severe that the front portion of the SUV was badly damaged.

Police identified the deceased as Sahil, Rahul and Saksham, while Sachin Verma and Hemant Verma sustained serious injuries. Both injured men are undergoing treatment.

Saharanpur assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Shailendra Kumar Srivastava said preliminary findings indicated that the SUV crashed into the divider due to overspeeding.

“Five people were travelling in the Thar. Three died in the accident, while two sustained serious injuries and are undergoing treatment. Necessary procedures are being carried out for the post-mortem examinations of the deceased,” he said.

The ASP added that the two injured men were not in a condition to speak, making it difficult to establish the precise circumstances leading to the crash. The cause would be ascertained during the investigation, he said, adding that further legal proceedings were underway.
