Man arrested for allegedly raping and impregnating a differently-abled girl

A man was arrested for allegedly raping and impregnating a differently-abled girl in Odisha as reports of two other children being sexually assaulted came in from others parts of the state on Thursday.

A nine-year-old rape survivor is battling for life in hospital after she was raped inside a school in Puri district in Thursday afternoon, police said. Investigators are waiting for her statement to know who assaulted her.

In coastal Balasore district, police arrested a man for allegedly raping his five-year-old niece on May 8. Her parents lodged a complaint with the police after she told them about the assault.

Police arrested a man on charges of assaulting a differently-abled girl in a village in Nayagarh district. Police said the child’s family held off on filing a complaint after village elders held a meeting where the accused promised to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh to the family. However, he did not pay the fine and the family also discovered that the girl was pregnant.

The accused was arrested after family filed a complaint this week, police said.

In about a month, 25 cases of sexual assaults against minors have been reported across Odisha.
