Shreshtha Thakur (32), a 2012-batch provincial police services (PPS) officer who stood up against BJP leaders in Bulandshahr, always dreamt of becoming a revolutionary police officer.
And when she finally donned the uniform, her acts of courage got her popularity right from her first posting in Bulandshahr.
“I always wanted to become a police officer since childhood and serve the nation,” said Thakur while talking to HT over phone.
Hailing from Unnao district, Thakur was born and brought up in Kanpur.
“I wanted to become a police officer since my schooling days. After passing intermediate from UP Board, the aspiration grew stronger while I pursued graduation and post-graduation from Kanpur University. My friends and classmates used to treat me as a police officer,” Thakur said.

While pursuing masters programme in business administration (MBA), she cleared the UP provincial civil services (UP PCS) examination and joined the provincial police service.

{{/usCountry}}“My family and friends always supported me in whatever I did before and after joining the police force,” she said.
After completing her training and probation, Thakur got her first posting at Bulandshahr on September 15, 2016.
She became popular as a strict and upright officer soon after taking charge as circle officer of Syana in Bulandshahr nine months back. After her transfer to Bahraich, she is planning to assume charge on Thursday.
Her family members and friends feel proud of her for standing up against BJP activists when they protested police action against a local leader during a vehicle checking drive in Bulandshahr. A video showing her confronting the BJP leaders, who were demanding the release of the vehicle without being fined, went viral on the social media.
She started getting support after she was transferred from Bulandshahr to remote India-Nepal border district of Bahraich on Saturday. Many saw her transfer as a punishment posting for opposing BJP leaders.
