BJP national president and Union home minister Amit Shah took a dig at Mamata Banerjee’s government from the pandal of a community Durga Puja that he inaugurated in Kolkata’s satellite township of Salt Lake on Tuesday.
“Earlier, the situation in West Bengal was such that people needed to move the court to get permission for immersion of Durga idols. But today, after the people of Bengal gave us 18 Lok Sabha seats, no one needs to move court anymore. You can now be at ease while organizing Durga Puja,” Shah said after inaugurating the BJ Block community puja.
“We want you to trust us that by the next elections, we will make a change in Bengal, and just like the Durga Puja there will be no hurdles towards organizing Saraswati Puja and Ram Navami as well,” he added.
Shah was accompanied on the dais by BJP state unit president Dilip Ghosh, national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, national secretary Rahul Sinha and national executive member Mukul Roy.
Picking on Shah’s speech, Trinamool Congress’ north 24-Parganas district unit president and state food minister Jyoti Priya Mallick said, “Amit Shah is resorting to untruths. Immersion restrictions had nothing to do with elections or politics. It was an administrative decision because the Durga Puja immersion and Muharram processions collided at that time. This time, there is no administrative reason.”
