Former Nilambur MLA PV Anvar on Monday announced that was severing ties with the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) and would launch a new political party under the fold of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) next month.

Anvar had joined the AITC in January 2025 and was appointed as the party’s state convenor in Kerala.
Addressing reporters in Kochi, he claimed the AITC’s national leadership failed to extend “any natural support” to him and his colleagues.
“From the beginning, I had intimated the AITC national leadership of the unique political situation in Kerala and the need to align closely with the Congress-led UDF. But despite initial promise for such a stand, the party’s national leadership was seen as gradually withdrawing from a natural alliance with the Congress party. Maybe their equation with the Congress in Bengal could be a factor,” he said. He added that he would launch a regional party by the second week of May.
Senior state Trinamool leader Sivadasan termed Anvar a ‘fraud’ who made false promises to bring in several prominent leaders from various parties into the Trinamool fold. “Anvar’s departure is not a loss for Trinamool at all,” he said.
