A CRPF commanding officer sustained multiple gunshot wounds in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora. He was flown to the AIIMS trauma centre in New Delhi on Tuesday at 8 pm. He was on a ventilator and in circulatory shock when he was brought to the capital.
The 42-year-old Chetan Cheetah is currently undergoing surgery at Jai Prakash Naryan Apex Trauma Centre to reduce intracranial pressure -- the pressure inside his skull. He is in critical condition, doctors said.
He was admitted to the intensive care unit on Tuesday night. He also had acidosis, a medical term for increased acidity in blood and other body tissues.
Cheetah was being through the night, doctors said, and his recent CT scan showed that there was a rise in intracranial pressure for which he is being operated.
After Cheetah suffered gunshot wounds at 7 am on Tuesday, he was admitted to the Base Hospital in Srinagar with a severe head injury along with jaw and eye injuries on his face. He had also fractured his hand.
The doctors in Srinagar also spotted a raw area on his buttocks and performed an exploratory laprotomy, a surgical incision into the abdominal cavity to check for any rectal injury or solid swelling of clotted blood.
