Bypoll results 2022 highlights: Major wins for BJP in UP, Tripura; AAP suffers upset in Punjab

Bypoll results 2022 LIVE updates: The Congress won two assembly seats, on each in Tripura and Jharkhand. The AAP won an assembly seat in Delhi, while the YSRCP was victorious in Andhra Pradesh. In Punjab, the SAD (Amritsar) bagged a Lok Sabha seat.

Bypoll results 2022 LIVE updates: The AAP registered an impressive win in the Rajinder Nagar assembly bypoll, for a seat left vacant following former MLA Raghav Chadha's Rajya Sabha debut. But in Punjab's Sangrur it suffered a major loss as SAD (Amritsar) won the previous Lok Sabha seat of chief minister Bhagwant Mann. Tripura chief minister Dr Manik Saha won from Town Bardowali which means he gets to continue as the chief minister, while the Congress won Agartala making a return to the assembly after years. Also in the northeastern state, its ruling BJP bagged the Jubarajnagar and Surma assemblies. Meanwhile, the Samajwadi Party faced a major loss as both Rampur and Azamgarh LS seats went to the BJP.

  The result will not affect the power equation in the Delhi assembly where the AAP holds a brute majority with 62 seats of the total 70, but will serve as a barometer of political influence in the national capital. Political pundits believe that since the poll was held after the unification of the municipal corporations, the result may be an indicator of the public mood. It was also the first election after the Covid-19 pandemic. A couple of BJP leaders also said that the recent anti-encroachment drives carried out in different areas of Delhi may have also antagonised a section of voters.
