Goa DGP Pranab Nanda dies of cardiac arrest
Nanda, who took charge as Goa’s DGP in March this year, was on leave and had travelled to New Delhi late Friday evening on a private visit.
Goa’s serving Director General of Police Pranab Nanda, a 1988 batch IPS officer, died of a cardiac arrest on Friday night at his residence in New Delhi, sources said.His passing was communicated to the Goa Police at around 1 am as per protocol.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has tweeted his condolences on the passing of the DGP.
“Shocked and saddened by the untimely demise of Shri Pranab Nanda (IPS), DGP, Goa. My deepest sympathies to his family members. May God comfort them in this hour of grief,” Sawant said.
Nanda, who took charge as Goa’s DGP in March this year, was on leave and had travelled to New Delhi late Friday evening on a private visit.
Nanda had been posted to many places including Goa, Arunachal Pradesh and New Delhi while he served in the state cadre. He joined the Intelligence Bureau, MHA in 2001 on deputation and remained posted with the department until recently, when he rejoined cadre.
During his tenure in IB, he handled VVIP Security in India and abroad, and dealt with counter insurgency and militancy in the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Mizoram.
He was also posted to the Embassy of India, Kabul, where he was responsible for the security of Indians in Afghanistan and aiding in implementation of projects by the Indian government in the country.
His wife Sundari, also a 1988 batch IPS Officer of the AGMUT Cadre, is currently posted in New Delhi as Special Commissioner of Police, Vigilance.
